Steel tubing is almost a generic term used for tubes made of several alloys, such as iron and carbon; nickel alloys; titanium alloys; and stainless steel.
To create alloy steel tubes, various metals are alloyed with others to improve their strength, corrosion resistance, wear resistance, conductivity, and toughness.
Nickel is the most common alloying agent and more than two-thirds of nickel produced globally is used to produce stainless steel and other nickel alloys used for a wide variety of uses, including tube and pipe.
Both seamless and welded stainless steel tubes are incredibly versatile and because of their strength and corrosion resistance are widely used for a wide range of applications, including carrying gas, steam, and liquids in harsh and aggressive environments.
Special metal alloys can supply stock of the entire range of seamless stainless steel tube worldwide, including coil tubes from 3-35mm, extreme straight fixed lengths from 3 – 76 mm. and capillary steel tubes from 0.51mm to 25.4mm outer diameter.
There are five main alloy groups. Depending on their intended use, nickel alloy tubes, with nickel as the primary element, are fortified with chromium, cobalt, molybdenum, and titanium to make them extremely tough and highly resistant to corrosion and extreme temperatures from well below freezing up to 1000 °C.
These special qualities, combined with weldability, formability and high ductility, make them excellent choices for heat exchangers in air conditioning, automotive and power industries, steam generator tubing in the nuclear power industry, tubes in gas-turbines and aerofoils, and gas and oil extraction.
We also offer made-on-order re-drawn and precision nickel and stainless steel tubes in non-standard sizes and specifications on order, with short lead times.
Thermocouples with extremely high corrosion and temperature resistance, are supplied from stock in diameters of 3-6mm and walls up to 1mm thick.
Mild steel tubes are used in the transportation of gasses and fluids because they will bend, rather than break when under high pressure.
