Copper Nickel Seamless Tube

Copper – Nickel Alloys were developed specifically for seawater and marine applications initially for condensers and piping systems. There are two main Copper-Nickel Alloys are 90/10 and 70/30, these are both copper based alloys with either 10% or 30% of Nickel respectively.

Special Metal Alloys are delighted to announce our latest joint venture with one of the world’s leading producers of Copper – Nickel Alloy seamless tubes in fixed lengths or coils.

WHAT Special Metal Alloys UK NOW OFFER !!!

90/10 AND 70/30 COPPER – NICKEL ALLOYS

Copper – Nickel Alloys were developed specifically for seawater and marine applications initially for condensers and piping systems.

There are two main Copper-Nickel Alloys are 90/10 and 70/30, these are both copper based alloys with either 10% or 30% of Nickel respectively.

Copper – Nickel Alloys corrosion resistance to seawater results from the formation of a thin adherent protective film which forms upon exposure to clean seawater.

The exposure of Copper – Nickel Alloys to clean seawater is crucial to its long term performance with an initial film forming over a period of 2 – 3 days, with the film fully maturing over a period of 2 – 3 months

This material is commonly used in Desalination units, Commercial / Naval Shipping, and Oil & Gas markets due to its high strength, corrosion resistance to seawater and resistance to biofouling in salt water environments.

Apart from the materials corrosion resistance to seawater, it was has also been recognised that these alloys have inherent resistance to macrofouling.

This property reduces the necessity for biocide dosing in seawater systems and condensers, and it also reduces drag forces and cleaning regimes when used on other applications in the Offshore Power and Marine Industries.

These alloys contain very important but small additions of Manganese and Iron which have been chosen to provide the optimum combination of resistance to flowing seawater and corrosion resistance.

Designations in Standards for 90-10 and 70-10 Copper-Nickel Alloys

AlloyUNSNoISOCEN
90Cu-10NiC70600CuNi10Fe1MnCW352H
70Cu-30NiC71500CuNi30Fe1MnCW354H

70-30 Copper – Nickel Alloy is stronger and can withstand higher seawater velocities and environments with a higher concentration of salt due to 30% Nickel compared to 90/10.
However 90/10 alloys provides a good service as a cheaper option and this makes this grade more popular and widely used in the market.
